Oktoberfest was SWEET! We went on an excursion to Aachen on Friday with the group, and it was really cool...then we left a little bit early and hopped the train to Munich! At first I got on the wrong car, and I had to wait an hour before we got to Frankfurt and I could get to my right seat and find Emily. It was kinda nerve wracking and she was terrified that I hadn't made it on the train. Luckily I found my place and everything worked out. We met up with her friend Tori at the train station in Munich, she was letting us stay at her place this weekend. She was such a cool girl and she introduced us to a bunch of her friends over the weekend. It was sweet, they were from all over the place, like the UK and Australia. Everyone was super funny and nice.
So anyways, we got up early on Saturday, like at 6, and went to wait in line at the Hacker-Pschorr tent. We had to wait 2 hours for the tents to open, and we still weren't able to get a table inside. We ended up just sitting in the Biergarten which still pretty cool. Oktoberfest, by the way, is like Kennywood but with a zillion beer tents. It's SWEET. Anyways, I was wearing one of Tori's dirndels, but I didn't have the undershirt and Emily wanted to get one of her own, so we ended up leaving in the afternoon to go Dirndle shopping! I got myself a navy blue one that's really pretty. I'm so happy I ended up buying one. We went back to Oktoberfest, but it was super crowded (it was the first day), and most of our group had gone, so we went home and went to bed early.
Sunday we went back to Oktoberfest and we were able to cram into a table in the Hacker tent. It was soooo cool being inside. The music was awesome, and the atmosphere was great. People would get up on the table and chug their mas's and the whole tent would cheer them on. Just thinking about doing that makes me sick. I ended up drinking 4 mas's of beer that day which I later found out equivilates to 20 cologne beers. Needless to say I don't think I ever want to see a Hacker-Pschorr ever again. The ride home on the train was brutal. Oh, I also ate a half a chicken on Saturday and on Sunday. It was DELICIOUS!!! I've never had better chicken in my entire life! It was all seasoned and the skin was super crunchy and good! I loved that chicken. Basically all of Oktoberfest was sweet. I was really surprised how many people wore Dirndles and Lederhosen. EVERYONE was dressed up! The people that actually stuck out were the ones in plain clothes. I'm so glad I was able to be in costume too!
All in all Oktoberfest was definitely one of the coolest things I've ever experienced. I'm excited to be able to say that I have been there. I definitely want to go back someday, but I think I might need a few years to recoup from it! This week I'm pretty slammed with homework, but I'm excited because we have 2 museum excursions. I think I'm gonna take it easy this weekend, and maybe see if my host siblings want to hang out and do something. Next weekend I'm going to Amsterdam! I'm so excited. After this weekend I have a solid month of traveling pretty much! I'll have a lot to write about!
